Message from me

Postby ddickey » Thu Sep 16, 2010 10:06 am

I'd like to start by saying I'm sorry to everyone who believed in me, supported me, liked me as a person and counted me as a friend. I am terribly sorry for what this does to my mom and sisters. To the people close to me, friends and family, I ask for your forgiveness. To the others, I doubt anything I say will change your mind about what you think of me, but I am offering you my apology anyway.

I want to make it very clear that everything that's happened to me is because of my own actions. I blame no one else or any circumstance, and am offering no excuses for what I have done. I feel sickened by what I've done and what I’ve become. I took my first sip almost ten years ago and never put the bottle down. There will be no more lies and half-truths from me—I'm done with living this life of deception. My parents did not bring me up like this, and I feel embarrassed by my actions.

I'd like to tell my story about how this has happened to a 'good' guy. I will not offer it as an excuse, only as an apology. That will come at a later date, for now I have to get my life back in order. Thanks for listening and for your support.

Sincerely,

Dewey

Dewey,
Accepted, this is a great start to what could be a powerful message. It is now time for you to give back what you took from many, the stage is yours and the seats will begin to fill if you do it honestly with integrity.

You have my full support to recovery, reconciliation and redemption. Now prove to us that you can live it through and have a positive impact.
Sincerely,
Paul

Good luck Dewey.
A computer once beat me at chess, but I kicked it's ass on a mountain bike.

Very classy, Dewey.

I have to disagree with you on one point. Your post did change some minds, and mine was one of them. I'm very impressed with your honesty and willingness to take ownership of your mistakes. That's way too rare, so thanks for stepping up.

Why is it we typically hear the busted say they are sorry, please listen to my special circumstances...but it's always after they are caught. I'd have a lot more respect for someone who cheated and admitted it without being forced to. It might sound harsh but I think this speaks to the persons integrity. I guess I'm one of those who hasn't changed their opinion. And it's not just the local we are talking about now because we all know there have been others...

Dewey,
I appreciate your honesty, even after the fact. I know living with this for so many years must have been a heavy weight on your shoulders.

When you were first busted back in the day, I think I was too young to know what to make of it. I know it wasn't the lesson it should have been for our cycling community, seeing what happened only a few years later. This time around, I am sure you won't let the opportunity to make a positive impact pass you by.

I look forward to hearing your story. I also look forward to the seeing the next generation racing with the lessons of the past.
