Mill City CX was the 7th and final event in the MCF Cyclocross Rider of the Year (CRY) series, presented by Twin Six. Series titles were determined by the top 5 scores out of 7 MCF CRY events.
Josh Roeser, Crossniacs, took his first Elite Men's CRY title. Roeser has served notice that he is a force to be reckoned with, culminating in victories this year at Metal Cross, Green Acres, and Jackson Meadow. Teammates CJ Faulkner and Rhett Finley finished 2nd and 3rd in the Elite Men's CRY series, making it a Crossniacs sweep.
Crossniac Linda Sone dominate the Elite Women's series with 5 victories at Metal Cross, Twilight Cross, Cross @ the Y, Green Acres, and Jackson Meadow. This is Sone's 4th CRY title, to go with her 2008, 2007, and 2005 titles. Cyclocrossracing.com's Corey Coogan Cisek was the only local rider to beat Sone, taking the victory at Red Barn. Cisek also won Mill City to garner 2nd place in the Elite Women's CRY series. The Fix Studio's Jennifer Nowlin finished 3rd in the series.
The Singlespeed was a popular new addition to the CRY series for 2012, with Brandon Krawczyk dominating the series with 5 wins, over series 2nd place Matt Leizinger, and 3rd place Barry Tungseth.

The Crossniacs swept the Elite Men's podium at Baker Orchard CX, with CJ "Thor" Faulkner taking his first victory of the season, after a series of close but no cigar performances. Teammates Chris Fisher finished 2nd, and Josh Roeser 3rd. Fred Mills, Revolution Cycle/Twin Six and Charles Simacek finished 4th and 5th respectively.
Linda Sone won the Elite Women's race for the 2nd Saturday in a row, in a tight battle with Corey Coogan Cisek. Jeanne Fleck rounded out the Podium in 3rd place.
The Elite Men's race saw Faulkner with an early flat tire, chasing back to the lead group. It was Chris Fisher of the Crossniacs that took the iniative to drive at the front, and split the group. CJ Faulkner then took over driving at the front. Newly signed Plan C rider, Eric Thompson was the only rider able to match the pace of the Crossniacs trio, sitting 2nd wheel for several laps. Late in the race, Faulkner got away solo, then Roeser and Fisher were able to drop a tiring Thompson. Faulkner came in well clear, with Fisher and Roeser finishing together. Chris Smith (HUP United) finished 4th overall, 1st in the Masters 35+. Mills made an amazing late race charge to pass several riders on the last lap to finish 5th overall, 4th in the Cat 1/2 just in front of Simacek. |
