Crossniacs teammates Josh Roeser (also sponsored by Bicycle Fit Guru) and CJ Faulkner broke away together under the lights in the elite men's race at Crossnight, with Faulkner taking the win from Roeser. A repeat performance of the day before at Red Barn, these two were initially part of a 4 man group including Jordan Cullen (Clif Bar Devo) and Pat Lemieux (Specialized). Roeser attacked the group with 3 of 10 laps complete, leaving Faulkner to sit on while Cullen and Lemieux chased. Cullen was in the process of closing the gap to Roeser when he flatted. Lemieux was able to bring Faulkner up to Roeser, only to see CJ counter attack and get away. Shortly after, Roeser dropped Lemieux, and joined he teammate at the front. From there the pair worked together to gain a maximum of 30 seconds over a chase group of half a dozen riders. Cullen switched bikes, joined, and then attacked the chase group with only Jesse Rients (Kuhl/Bicycle Fit Guru) able to follow. The chasing pair brought the gap to the leaders down to 20 seconds, but ran out of time, and Cullen had to settle for 3rd place in front of Rients. Another Crossniacs rider, Chris Fisher, finished 5th.

The elite women's race saw a tight battle between Jenna Rinehart (Specialized) and Terra James (Sweet and Salty Cycling). Those 2 broke away from the lead group of 5 riders, which included Bianca Bergman (Texas Roadhouse), Niki Soderberg (Team Kenda), and Maria Benson (Synergy). Bergman took a tumble, and had to abandon. Shortly after that, Rinehart and James rode away from the other pair. The gap between the 2 pairs would widen, but each pair stayed together until the final lap. Rinehart gained the upper hand on James after the barriers, taking her second cross victory of the season, to go with her win at Green Acres last Sunday. James finished a close 2nd, and Benson won the battle for 3rd against Soderberg. Kristy Henderson (Silver Cycling) rode in solo for 5th place.

The HUP United crew did a great job giving racers an opportunity to enjoy this unique style of racing, that is taking the nation by storm. The race drew over 140 racers, and promises to be back next year, but will likely move to a Friday or Saturday night to give even more people a chance to race under the lights.

Race results will be posted to the MCF website on Monday night.
