The USAC North Central Regional Development Camp will be held August 1-6 in La Crosse, WI. USAC regional development camps have been held in June, however, with Junior National Road Championships being the same week that the regional camps have been historically held, the North Central camp has moved to August.
Athletes may see many benefits to an August camp such as not having to decide between attending regional development camp or Road Nationals. If an athlete does not have stellar results at Road or Track Nationals, they can have another chance of getting into the USAC athlete talent pool pipeline by attending camp.
Athletes that attend regional development camps participate in the USAC field test protocol where their gender, racing age, and field test results are sent to USAC for talent identification. Simply attending camp does get an athlete into the USAC talent pool pipeline but good field test results along with a camp coach recommendation can help.
Another benefit of attending the regional development camps is the emphasis on skills development. The camp is not a high mileage camp but rather a venue for athletes to work on skills in a setting among their peers and USAC certified coaches.
The lead coach for this year’s North Central Camp will be Clay Worthington. Clay is formally the USAC National Talent ID Coach/U25 Men’s Endurance Track Coach. Last year and up to recently, Clay was the director of all the USAC regional development camps.
Room and board will be provided through the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse as part of the camp registration fee.
Early bird discounts for camp registration ends April 12. There is also a camp registration discount for athletes on the same team as long as they all register together.
More information regarding the USAC regional development camps can be found on the Junior Programs link on the USAC website at: HERE and HERE.
